Tinubu praises Enugu governor, pledges support for regional development

President Bola Tinubu has praised Peter Mbah for what he described as significant development progress in Enugu State, saying such leadership offers hope for Nigeria’s future.

The president made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving a delegation led by Governor Mbah at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Mr Tinubu said the governor’s efforts were vital for strengthening democracy and improving citizens’ lives. He described Mr Mbah as “a transformative leader” and said the pace of development in Enugu had been notable.

“The future of this country rests on people like you, with commitment, vision and seriousness,” the president said, adding that his administration would continue to work with state leaders to build a more prosperous Nigeria.

He also urged the governor to remain focused and not be distracted by criticism, saying progress often attracts opposition. “Stay focused and believe in yourself,” he said.

Mr Tinubu reiterated his government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the South East, including plans to fast-track the Port Harcourt–Enugu rail line, which he said would boost economic growth in the region.

In his response, Mr Mbah thanked the president for what he called inclusive leadership, noting that federal interventions had benefitted Enugu State.

He highlighted projects such as the concessioning of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, the extension of the national gas pipeline to Enugu, and the establishment of the South East Development Commission as key milestones.

The governor also expressed political support for the president ahead of the 2027 election, saying the people of Enugu State would “stand proudly” with him.

The meeting was attended by several political and military figures, including former Senate President Ken Nnamani and former Enugu State governors Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, among others.

The president described the gathering as one of the notable moments of his administration.
