Trump extends Iran ceasefire as US-Iran talks continue amid uncertainty

 

Donald Trump has said he will extend the ceasefire with Iran until negotiations between the two countries make further progress.

The US president also said the blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place until Tehran presents what he described as a “unified proposal”.

The move comes amid continued uncertainty over US-Iran talks, with the current ceasefire previously expected to expire this week.

Meanwhile, Vice-President JD Vance, who had been expected to travel to Islamabad on Tuesday, has remained in Washington. The White House later confirmed he will no longer make the trip.

Iran has also not decided whether to send a delegation to Pakistan for talks with the United States, according to a foreign ministry spokesperson who spoke to the BBC.

Analysts say the extension suggests Mr Trump is seeking more time to advance diplomatic efforts, with growing indications that the White House is exploring ways to bring the conflict to an end.
