CP Giwa engages stakeholders in Udenu town hall on community policing

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Bitrus Giwa, on Tuesday held a town hall meeting with security stakeholders and residents of Udenu Area Command, as part of efforts to deepen community-based policing across the state.

The engagement, which took place at the Udenu Local Government Secretariat, brought together representatives of religious and traditional institutions, town unions, youth and women groups, transport unions, sister security agencies, forest guards, neighbourhood watch groups, business owners, and other stakeholders from Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Isi-Uzo and Udenu local government areas.

The Executive Chairman of Udenu Local Government Area, Mr Aka Eze Aka, was present at the meeting, while other council chairmen were represented.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the session was part of the Commissioner’s “people-friendly policing approach” and aligned with directives on community-based, inclusive and trust-building policing.

The meeting, he said, provided a platform for residents to raise concerns about police conduct and prevailing security challenges, while jointly exploring practical measures to strengthen public safety, intelligence sharing and collaboration between communities and security agencies.

The police commissioner assured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through professionalism, proactive policing and prompt response to credible security information.

He urged citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant and supportive of security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious persons, activities and movements within their communities.

Stakeholders at the meeting commended the initiative and reaffirmed their willingness to sustain collaboration with the police and other security agencies to enhance peace, security and development in their communities.

In response, CP Giwa emphasised that effective policing could only be achieved through public trust, cooperation and active community participation.

“The interactive session provided participants the opportunity to raise concerns on police conduct and prevailing security challenges, while jointly exploring practical measures to strengthen security, public safety, intelligence sharing, trust, and community-police collaboration across the area,” the statement said.
