Ebola Outbreak: Over 100 Dead in DR Congo as Cases Rise

At least 100 people have died in an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the head of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, as reported by the BBC.

Health authorities say the outbreak has also recorded more than 390 suspected cases, with the World Health Organization declaring it an international emergency due to the scale and spread of infections.

The outbreak is linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, a form for which there are currently no approved vaccines or treatments, raising concern among global health officials.

In addition to the deaths in DR Congo, officials in neighbouring Uganda have confirmed one death and two infections, as the virus continues to spread across borders, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention cited by the BBC.
