Enugu First Lady Celebrates Birthday with Hospital Outreach, Empowers Persons with Disabilities

The wife of the Enugu State Governor, Her Excellency Nkechinyere Iheoma Mbah, has marked her birthday with a combination of humanitarian outreach and a celebration that highlighted her social welfare interventions across the state.

The activities, which cut across health and social inclusion initiatives, began with a visit to Parklane Hospital, Enugu, where the First Lady engaged with new mothers and medical personnel. She distributed essential baby items to mothers in the postnatal ward and offered words of encouragement during personal interactions, describing maternal care as central to community wellbeing.

She also visited the paediatrics department, where she interacted with children and caregivers, an engagement that underscored what aides described as her continued advocacy for improved healthcare delivery and support for vulnerable families.

The programme later moved to the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu, where women leaders from across the state gathered in her honour. The event brought together wives of local government chairmen from Igbo Eze South, Udi, Enugu East, Ezeagu, Enugu North, Oji River, Nkanu West and Nsukka local government areas, among others, in a show of solidarity.

Leading the delegation, Mrs Rita Edeh, wife of the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the group. She said the First Lady’s initiatives had continued to impact women, families and vulnerable groups across Enugu State, adding that her influence extended beyond physical presence.

She described Mrs Mbah as “a unifying figure whose interventions continue to uplift women, families and vulnerable groups,” noting that the wives of council chairmen remained committed to supporting her humanitarian programmes.

The gathering also featured cultural displays, a dance competition among women leaders, and other interactive activities aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie.

A major highlight of the celebration was an empowerment initiative for persons living with disabilities drawn from the 17 local government areas of Enugu State. Beneficiaries were presented with financial assistance and material support aimed at improving their welfare and promoting social inclusion.

Organisers said the intervention was part of efforts to strengthen inclusiveness, dignity and equal opportunity for persons with disabilities across the state.

Goodwill messages from dignitaries and stakeholders praised Mrs Mbah’s continued advocacy for vulnerable groups, particularly in the areas of healthcare, women empowerment and community development.

Although she was not physically present at the ICC reception, speakers said her presence was strongly felt through her humanitarian footprint and ongoing social interventions.

The event was widely described by participants as both a celebration and a service-driven outreach, reflecting what they called her commitment to compassion, unity and inclusive development in Enugu State.
