The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official portal to recognise Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), following the party’s national convention in Abuja.
The update also reflects other newly elected members of the party’s National Working Committee, effectively resolving lingering questions over the party’s leadership structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement by the PRP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Bello Ishaq, the development followed the successful conduct of the convention, which produced a new national executive team.
INEC’s portal lists Kanu Sunday Uchenna as National Secretary, Bayawo Yunusa Abdullahi as National Treasurer, Chuka Patrick as National Financial Secretary, and Vincent Danladi Okudu as National Legal Adviser.
Ishaq said the update confirmed official recognition of the new leadership and marked “a significant step” in stabilising the party’s administrative structure.
The party also said the convention, held in Abuja, produced other key officers including Mallam Buhari Haruna as Deputy National Chairman (North), Haruna Nanven as National Organising Secretary, and Ozu Important Fredrick as National Youth Leader.
The PRP, one of Nigeria’s oldest political parties, has in recent months faced internal tensions over leadership legitimacy, with rival claims of factional control. Party officials insist those disputes have now been resolved following the convention and INEC’s update.
With the recognition, the party joins others with fully updated leadership details on the electoral commission’s database, a requirement for participation in electoral activities.
