Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested a 25-year-old man, Idrisu Musa, over the alleged killing of his elder brother, Muhammed Haruna, and the victim’s wife, Habiba Muhammed, in Kebbi State.
Police spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, said in a statement issued on Saturday that the couple was attacked with a cutlass while asleep in Asarara Village, Kimba District, in Jega Local Government Area.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 05:15 local time on 9 May, and both victims later died from their injuries.
Usman said investigators had recovered “substantial and implicating evidence” allegedly linking the suspect to the killings.
He added that the suspect had reportedly threatened the couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the attack.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Umar Hadejia, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Police said efforts were under way to ensure diligent prosecution of the case.
