MainPower appeals for patience over delayed power restoration in parts of Enugu

MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has appealed to residents of Emene and surrounding communities in Enugu to remain patient amid prolonged power outages caused by damaged electricity infrastructure.

The Managing Director of MEDL, Dr Ernest Mupwaya, made the appeal on Wednesday while inspecting ongoing repair works on the affected electrical towers around the Naira Triangle area of Emene.

According to the company, the disruption followed a wire cut on the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2, as well as other associated faults linked to heavy rainfall and windstorm recorded earlier this month.

Mupwaya expressed regret over the hardship caused by the outage, particularly in areas including Emenite, Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Alo Aluminium, Akpuoga, Nkwubor, Ugwuomu, Sunrise Estate, Conraws Estate, Rehab Road and Adoration.

He assured residents that engineers were working to complete the reconductoring of the damaged lines and reinforce the affected towers.

“The ongoing reconductoring of the affected lines and reinforcement of the towers are receiving attention and would soon be completed,” he said.

The MEDL boss explained that additional technical issues discovered during repair work had delayed restoration efforts.

According to him, the company had to reinforce the damaged towers to prevent possible collapse and ensure the safety of residents and property around the affected locations.

He clarified that the major fault was on the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2, while outages affecting the Trans-Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Ituku-Ozalla and Ugwuogo 33KV lines were intentionally initiated to create a safe environment for engineers carrying out repairs.

Mupwaya was accompanied during the inspection by the company’s Chief Technical Officer, Engr Chimezie Chukwu; Head of Operations, Engr Ikenna Mbamalu; and Team Lead of the Quick Response Team, Abakpa District, Engr Bethrand Amu.

The company recalled that heavy windstorm and rainfall on May 3 damaged the Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2, affecting power supply to several parts of Enugu connected to the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s New Haven Station.
