MainPower DisCo explains power outage in parts of Enugu

Power supply has been disrupted in several parts of Enugu metropolis following heavy rainfall and strong winds that damaged electricity infrastructure, the MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has said.

The company disclosed that the outage, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, was caused by weather-related damage affecting key distribution facilities.

In a statement issued on Monday, MEDL’s Head of Communications, Mr Emeka Ezeh, said the incident led to a wire cut along the Emene Industrial Lines one and two.

According to him, the fault impacted a distribution tower and disrupted supply to multiple 33kV feeders connected to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) switch yard at the New Haven Station.

“The affected feeders include Trans-Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Ituku Ozalla and Ugwogo 33kV lines,” he said.

Ezeh explained that the disruption has left electricity customers in Trans-Ekulu, Emene, Thinkers Corner, Emenite, Airport, Alo-Aluminium, Akpuoga, Nkwubor, Ugwuomu, Abakpa-Nike, Nike Lake, Ugwogo and surrounding areas without power.

He added that technical teams have been deployed to address the fault and restore supply as quickly as possible.

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to residents, attributing the outage to unforeseen weather conditions.
