Ministry seals three illegal health facilities in Enugu

The Enugu State Ministry of Health has sealed three illegal health facilities operating without valid licences in the Enugu South Local Government Area of the state capital.

The action was carried out on Friday by the ministry’s Monitoring and Supervision Team led by the Director of Medical Services, Dr Chinyere Ezeudu, as part of ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the state.

Speaking during the exercise, Ezeudu said the strategic supervision was designed to assess the quality of healthcare services, staff performance, infrastructure, patient management, and compliance with government health policies and standards across health facilities.

She reaffirmed the commitment of the state government and the Ministry of Health to building a responsive, efficient and people-centred healthcare system.

Ezeudu urged health workers to remain dedicated to their duties, uphold professionalism and maintain high standards of patient care.

She also commended facilities that demonstrated excellence in service delivery while offering constructive recommendations to those requiring improvement.

According to her, the supervision exercise was not intended to witch-hunt health facilities or healthcare personnel but to support continuous improvement in service delivery across the state.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Prof George Ugwu, said routine monitoring and supportive supervision remained critical tools for identifying gaps, strengthening accountability and ensuring residents receive quality healthcare services at all levels.

“The monitoring and supervisory activities further highlight the determination of the state government, led by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to sustain ongoing reforms in the health sector.

“This is meant to ensure that every community benefits from accessible and quality healthcare services,” Ugwu said.

During the exercise, the team visited several health facilities within the council area, interacting directly with healthcare workers and patients while assessing operational efficiency and service delivery.

Residents, however, commended the ministry’s direct monitoring and supervisory role, describing it as a proactive step towards strengthening the healthcare system and boosting public confidence in government-owned, mission-owned and private health facilities.
