NOCEN Provost Cautions Fresh Students Against Cultism, Social Vices

The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Professor Victor Ndirika, has warned newly admitted students of the institution to stay away from cultism and other social vices.

Speaking during the institution’s 2025/2026 matriculation ceremony for NCE and Degree students, Professor Ndirika urged the students to remain law-abiding and disciplined in pursuit of their academic goals.

He warned that security agencies would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in unlawful groups or activities, stressing the need for students to uphold the culture of discipline for which the institution is known.

Professor Ndirika also encouraged the students to take advantage of the college’s extracurricular and skill acquisition programmes, which he said align with the Anambra State Government’s “One Youth, Two Skills” initiative.

According to him, the programmes are designed to equip students with practical skills needed for self-reliance and future success.

The Provost thanked the host community for its continued support and collaboration with the institution, while also expressing appreciation to the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for appointing him Provost.

He pledged to work with the institution’s management, staff, students, and stakeholders to advance the goals of the college.

Also speaking, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Simon Ortuanya, represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Professor G.C. Nji, congratulated the students and urged them to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to academic excellence.

Highlights of the ceremony included the administration of the matriculation oath, musical performances, and cultural dance presentations.
