Rangers Clinch Ninth NPFL Title

Rangers International F.C. have won the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League title after defeating Ikorodu City F.C. 2-1 in a dramatic final-day encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

The Matchday 38 fixture attracted a large crowd of football supporters, with travelling fans of the Flying Antelopes turning out in strong numbers to support the Enugu-based club.

The victory secured Rangers’ ninth league title, reinforcing the club’s status as one of Nigeria’s most successful football teams. The club previously won the league in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1984, 2016 and 2024.

The triumph also marked another major milestone for Rangers Technical Adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu, who guided the club to league titles in both 2024 and 2026.

Rangers began the match brightly and controlled possession against a determined Ikorodu City side hoping to disrupt the visitors’ title ambitions.

The breakthrough came in the 30th minute when Chidiebere Nwobodo finished a well-worked attacking move to give Rangers the lead.

The goal sparked celebrations among Rangers supporters, who filled sections of the stadium with songs, drums and chants throughout the contest.

Rangers doubled their advantage in the 52nd minute as Nwobodo completed his brace with another composed finish.

Ikorodu City responded six minutes later through substitute Moses Ali, who scored from a corner-kick situation to revive hopes of a comeback for the Lagos club.

The closing stages saw sustained pressure from Ikorodu City, but Rangers defended resolutely to preserve their slender lead.

Players, technical officials and supporters of Rangers erupted in celebration after the final whistle confirmed the club as champions of the 2025/2026 NPFL season.

The title-winning campaign capped an impressive season for the Flying Antelopes, who showed consistency and resilience throughout the competition.

Football fans at the arena applauded both sides for producing an entertaining and competitive finale to the league season, while Rangers’ latest triumph is expected to strengthen the club’s preparations for continental football next season.
