Churches Urge Fathers to Embrace Responsibility, Faith
Clergymen in Awka and its environs have urged fathers to take stronger responsibility in their homes, uphold moral discipline, and deepen their faith in God as Christians marked the 2026 International Fathers’ Day.
The Archdeacon of Awka Central Archdeaconry and Vicar of the Anglican Church of the Holy Spirit, Government House, Awka, Venerable Prince Chuma Oranye, said fathers must take full responsibility in raising God-fearing children and providing spiritual direction in their families.
He stressed that fathers must “rise and take responsibility to care for, defend, and stand for causes that will promote positive values,” noting that leadership in the home remains a divine duty.
At Saint Peter’s Anglican Church, Amawbia, the Vicar and Archdeacon of Amawbia Archdeaconry, Venerable Jason Onyeakagbusi, described fathers as “umbrellas that provide shelter for the family physically and spiritually,” urging men to live up to their responsibilities.
He said responsible fatherhood remains critical to social stability, adding that fathers must provide identity, guidance, and protection for their households.
The Superintendent of Christ Holy Church International, Awka Superintendency, Venerable David Achukwu, warned that failure in proper child upbringing exposes young people to negative societal influences.
He called for strict moral and spiritual discipline in raising children, stressing that early guidance is key to preventing behavioural decay.
At Holy Trinity Church, Ifite-Nibo, Vicar Venerable Silas Ike urged fathers to remain steadfast in faith despite economic and social challenges.
He said fathers must “shine through faith and peace” and avoid discouragement, insisting that perseverance and trust in God remain essential for national stability.
A visiting priest at the Chapel of Divine Mercy, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, Reverend Father Emmanuel Okeke, also called on Christians to strengthen their faith in God.
In a homily, he said faith remains the foundation of Christianity and urged believers to remain committed to prayer and avoid unholy practices.
He warned that fear limits human potential and urged worshippers to sustain spiritual discipline and moral uprightness.
