Police Arrest Four Suspects Over Alleged Murder, Child Abuse in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command says it has taken four suspects into custody in connection with separate cases of alleged murder and child abuse in the state.
The command also commended residents for their vigilance and timely provision of information, which it said has continued to assist security agencies in exposing criminal activities and apprehending suspects.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests followed investigations into two separate incidents that recently attracted public attention on social media.
In the first case, police arrested a 33-year-old suspect, Mr. Ifechukwu Okechukwu, over the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend in Nkpor.
The police said the case was reported following credible information received from concerned members of the public, leading to the suspect's arrest.
"The first suspect in custody, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, male, aged 33 years, is being investigated for the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend. The case was reported following credible information received from concerned members of the public, leading to the suspect's arrest," the statement said.
The command disclosed that operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the matter and commenced a detailed investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a separate incident, police arrested three suspects over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu.
The suspects were identified as Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere, aged 40; Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, aged 30; and a 16-year-old identified as Arum Goodluck.
According to the police, the arrests followed reports and investigations into allegations that the child sustained severe injuries inflicted over a period of time.
During interrogation, one of the suspects, Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, allegedly admitted using burning plastic materials to inflict injuries on the child.
"Their arrest followed the alleged serious abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu. During interrogation, Mrs. Chisom confessed to having used burning plastic to inflict burns on the victim," the statement said.
Police said the child has been provided with necessary medical care and support, while investigators continue to gather evidence to facilitate prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.
"The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property, enforcing the law, and ensuring that perpetrators of crimes are brought to justice," the Commissioner stated.
Mr. Orutugu also urged residents to continue supporting the police and other security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and criminal conduct through designated emergency lines and the nearest police stations.
The Anambra State Police Command said investigations into both cases are ongoing and assured the public that all those found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
