Soludo’s Wife Vows Justice for Abused 10-Year-Old Boy in Anambra

The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has pledged to ensure justice for a 10-year-old boy allegedly subjected to severe abuse by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The case sparked widespread outrage after videos showing extensive injuries on the child surfaced on social media. The boy is currently receiving medical treatment under the protection of the Anambra State Government.

In a statement issued on Monday, Mrs. Soludo described the incident as "horrific" and assured the public that she would personally oversee the child's rehabilitation and recovery process.

"I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the horrific abuse allegedly suffered by the 10-year-old boy in the hands of his guardian in Awada, Obosi.

"No child, whatever their crime, deserves to endure such cruelty, and as a mother, I find the images and reports from the incident deeply troubling," she said.

Mrs. Soludo disclosed that she had contacted the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and requested the transfer of the child to a more suitable medical facility for specialised treatment and comprehensive care.

"Following this development, I have spoken with the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and appealed that the child be moved from his current hospital to a more suitable medical facility where he can receive optimum treatment, specialised care, and every support necessary for his recovery," she stated.

The governor's wife further pledged to take responsibility for the child's rehabilitation, including his physical, emotional and psychological recovery.

She also called for the prosecution of all individuals connected to the alleged abuse, including members of the household where the incident reportedly occurred.

"Furthermore, I have requested that all those connected to this heinous act be brought to justice, including the arrest of the suspect's husband to answer for a crime that occurred under his roof.

"Those responsible must face the full weight of the law. Anambra State, under this administration, maintains zero tolerance for any form of abuse against children and women, and I will personally follow up on this case to ensure that justice is rightly served," Mrs. Soludo added.

She commended residents and concerned citizens who brought the incident to public attention, describing public vigilance as critical to protecting vulnerable members of society.

"We must all remain vigilant and speak up whenever we witness abuse, because every child deserves protection, dignity, and love. I really thank everyone who spoke up and brought this heinous act to light," she said.

The incident has generated widespread condemnation across the state, with child rights advocates calling for a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of those found culpable.
