Tinubu orders Edun to step down as Oyedele takes over finance ministry

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, directing Finance Minister Wale Edun to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele.

A memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said Mr Edun would relinquish his role as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy to Mr Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance.

The reshuffle also affects the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, where Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has been asked to step down. He is to be replaced by Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who has been named minister-designate.

According to the memo, all handover processes must be completed by 23 April 2026.

Mr Akume said the changes were intended to “strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance” and improve economic delivery under the administration’s agenda.

The statement did not indicate the future roles of the outgoing ministers.

Mr Tinubu thanked those leaving office for their service, adding that efforts to “reinvigorate” his cabinet would continue.
