Trump Backs Secret Service After Washington Hotel Shooting

 

A White House official says President Donald Trump is “standing by the leadership of the Secret Service” following the shooting incident at a Washington, D.C. hotel on Saturday.

The official added that the President believes his security detail “did an excellent job neutralising the shooter and moving the President, First Lady, Vice-President and Cabinet to safety.”

According to the White House, a meeting will be held later this week to review and strengthen security procedures in the aftermath of the incident.

Authorities say Cole Tomas Allen, 31, was arrested after allegedly opening fire near a security checkpoint in the hotel foyer where the dinner was taking place on a lower floor. He is expected to be formally charged at a court hearing in Washington.

Allen, who is from California, reportedly describes himself as a “game developer and teacher,” according to details released by investigators.

Speaking after the incident at the correspondents’ dinner, President Trump said: “I wasn’t worried. I understand life. We live in a crazy world.”
