At least 11 people have been confirmed dead after a lone vehicle accident on the Eruku Bridge along the Lagos–Abeokuta expressway in Nigeria’s Ogun State.
The crash occurred on Sunday night when a gold Toyota car, with registration number GGE722KJ, reportedly somersaulted and fell off the bridge, trapping all occupants inside.
The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, said emergency responders were immediately deployed to the scene by the Itori unit.
According to the FRSC, all 11 occupants—10 men and one woman—died in the incident after the vehicle’s doors became jammed on impact, preventing escape.
Rescue teams, with support from local residents, later recovered the bodies and deposited them at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ifo.
Authorities attributed the crash to suspected dangerous driving and overloading, while also urging motorists to exercise caution, particularly during night travel along the busy corridor.
The FRSC expressed condolences to the families of the victims and warned against reckless driving behaviour on Nigerian roads.
