Betty Mensah Urges Greater Women Participation In Political Leadership

Former Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North and National Coordinator for Recreation and Wellness at Ghana’s Ministry of Sports, Honourable Seyram Betty Krosbi Mensah, has called on women across the country to take a more active role in political leadership and decision-making processes.

She made the call during a Women Empowerment and Leadership Training Programme organised by Lead Afrique International in Accra. The programme brought together women from different parts of Ghana for mentorship, leadership development, and capacity-building sessions.

Honourable Betty Krosbi Mensah, who represented the National Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Dr Hanna Louisa Bissiw, served as a panelist at the event, where she shared her leadership journey and encouraged women to prepare themselves for leadership positions.

She stressed that inclusive governance can only be achieved through equal participation of men and women in public leadership and policy-making.

According to her, women must not only participate in politics but also build the confidence, competence, and determination required to compete effectively for leadership roles.

In her words, “Leadership is not given — it is earned. Women must prepare, rise, and take their rightful place in shaping national development.”

The programme also featured contributions from governance and legal experts, who called for stronger institutional support and policies aimed at increasing women’s participation in politics and governance.

Speakers at the event emphasised that empowering women strengthens communities, improves governance, and contributes to national development.
