Enugu clarifies verification exercise for pensioners, civil servants

The Enugu State Government has clarified that the ongoing verification exercise is strictly meant for newly employed civil servants, unverified pensioners, and next-of-kin whose earlier documentation processes were not completed.

In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, the government explained that persons who have already been verified are not required to participate again in the exercise.

The statement specified that the exercise covers three categories: next-of-kin whose verification was delayed due to pending Letters of Administration from the courts; pensioners who were absent during earlier exercises but have recently been issued verification codes; and newly recruited civil servants undergoing verification for the first time.

Professor Onyia stated that those who had already completed verification should stay away from the exercise, noting that their records are already being processed through the appropriate government channels.

“Those already verified do not need to come again — your file is currently being processed through the appropriate channels,” the statement read.

The government also issued a strong warning against duplication, stressing that any previously verified individual who reports for the exercise again would be regarded as engaging in double verification.

“Any person who has been previously verified and presents themselves for re-verification will be deemed to have committed double verification, an act of fraud, which will have consequences,” it added.

The state government reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, orderly and efficient verification process, urging all eligible persons to strictly follow the guidelines to avoid delays and ensure smooth processing of benefits.
