The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Bitrus Giwa, has warned officers and supervisory commanders in the state command to uphold professionalism, discipline and proper supervision of personnel, stressing that he would not tolerate misconduct by any officer regardless of rank.

Speaking during the Command’s Monthly Strategic Conference held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu, the police commissioner declared that he would not take responsibility for what he described as the “irresponsibility, stupidity or misconduct” of any police officer.

The conference was attended by Deputy and Assistant Commissioners of Police, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, as well as heads of formations, tactical units, sections and departments.

According to the commissioner, supervisory officers must ensure effective monitoring of their subordinates and enforce discipline in line with the ethical standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

Giwa also conveyed key directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during a recent emergency meeting with senior police officers nationwide.

He said the directives focused on professionalism, discipline, respect for human rights, intelligence-led policing and responsible engagement with members of the public.

The police commissioner further warned that acts such as extortion, corruption, incivility, abuse of office and unlawful detention would not be tolerated under his leadership, noting that erring officers would face disciplinary measures in accordance with existing laws and police regulations.

He also urged officers to remain committed to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property across Enugu State.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Daniel Ndukwe, the command reiterated its commitment to professional policing and adherence to human rights standards in all operations across the state.
