Some parts of Enugu State are to experience a planned power outage on Sunday as electricity distribution company MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) carries out major repair works on key infrastructure within the state capital.
In a statement issued in Enugu, the Head of Communications of MEDL, Emeka Ezeh, said the outage is scheduled for 10 May between 08:00 and 18:00 local time.
He explained that the interruption in power supply is necessary to allow engineers to safely complete repair works on the reconstructed Emene Industrial Lines 1 and 2 transmission towers, including restringing of high-tension wires.
According to the company, the outage will affect several 33KV feeder lines, including Trans Ekulu, Thinkers Corner, Ituku Ozalla and Ugwogo.
Residents in affected areas such as Trans-Ekulu, Emene, Thinkers Corner, Emenite, Airport axis, Alo Aluminium, Akpuoga, Nkwubor, Ugwuomu, Abakpa-Nike, Nike Lake, Ugwogo and surrounding communities will experience temporary power disruption during the maintenance period.
The company said the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and stability of electricity supply across the network.
It expressed regret over the inconvenience the outage may cause, noting that some customers along the Emene Industrial Lines have already experienced intermittent supply in recent days due to ongoing technical works.
MEDL assured customers that electricity supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance exercise.
The company also appealed for patience and cooperation from affected residents as engineers work to complete the repairs within the scheduled timeframe.
