FG announces partial closure of Ikorodu–Sagamu expressway for repairs

The Federal Government has announced a partial closure of sections of the Ikorodu–Sagamu expressway to allow for ongoing rehabilitation works on damaged portions of the road.

According to the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, the temporary closure will take effect from Monday and is expected to facilitate the completion of critical reconstruction activities along the corridor.

He explained that the measure became necessary after the Minister of Works, David Umahi, directed contractors to resume and accelerate work on key sections of the highway.

The affected stretch includes areas from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction, as well as the Lagos Cement to Coca-Cola axis inward Sagamu.

During the repair period, motorists travelling from Ikorodu towards Sagamu will be diverted through alternative routes under a counterflow traffic arrangement. Traffic officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) are expected to be deployed to manage congestion and ensure smooth movement.

Komolafe said the reconstruction exercise is expected to last about three months to allow for full engineering works and proper curing of the concrete pavement.

He added that the intervention is part of broader efforts to improve safety and restore the structural integrity of the highway, which is a key transport link between Lagos and Ogun States.

Motorists and residents have been urged to cooperate with traffic officials and exercise patience during the period of disruption.

The Ministry of Works also appealed for public understanding, noting that the inconvenience is temporary and necessary for long-term road safety improvements.
