The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Nonye Soludo, has praised nurses across Nigeria for their contributions to the healthcare sector, describing them as compassionate professionals whose service extends beyond medical care to offering hope and comfort to patients.
Soludo, founder of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, made the remarks in a message issued on Tuesday to commemorate the 2026 International Nurses Day, observed globally on May 12.
She described nurses as unsung heroes whose dedication and resilience continue to strengthen healthcare delivery while supporting families and communities.
The Anambra First Lady also congratulated nurses on the occasion and urged them to sustain their commitment to quality healthcare services.
This year’s International Nurses Day is themed: “Our Nurses, Our Future – Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
According to Soludo, nurses play vital roles in healthcare delivery through compassion, patience and professionalism.
“Today, we celebrate the unsung heroes whose compassion and dignity speak louder than words — our nurses,” she said.
“Behind every recovering patient is a dedicated nurse who stayed awake through the night, offered reassurance in moments of fear and anxiety, and gave care with patience, strength, and love.”
She noted that the role of nurses extends beyond administering treatment, saying they also provide emotional support and humanity within the healthcare system.
“Their service goes beyond medicine; they bring hope, comfort, and humanity to healthcare and our society,” she stated.
Soludo further commended nurses in Anambra State and across the country for what she described as their sacrifice and commitment to saving lives.
“On this International Nurses Day, I honour the dedication, sacrifice, and resilience of nurses in Anambra State and beyond,” she said.
“Your commitment continues to save lives, strengthen families, and uphold the dignity of our communities every single day.”
She added: “Thank you for all you do. The world is healthier, kinder, and safer because of you. Happy International Nurses Day!”
International Nurses Day is observed annually to recognise the contributions of nurses to healthcare systems worldwide and to highlight the need for stronger investment in the nursing workforce and healthcare delivery.
