Resignations Hit APC, APGA in Ebonyi State

A wave of resignations has hit the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Ebonyi State, as prominent politicians and business leaders withdraw their membership from both parties.

The development comes less than a week after a consultative stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Francis Nwifuru, which produced consensus aspirants for National Assembly and House of Assembly tickets under the APC ahead of the next elections.

Among those who resigned from the APC are Chief Christian Asaga Nwali, a prominent businessman, Chief Chibuike Orogwu, another notable entrepreneur, and Emmanuel Ofoke, among others. In separate letters, they cited personal reasons for their decisions.

Chief Nwali, in a letter dated May 1, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Ikwo Local Government Area, said his resignation followed “careful reflection on developments within the party,” while Chief Orogwu, in a letter dated March 12, 2026, requested that his name be removed from the party register, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to serve.

In a related development, the 2023 APGA governorship candidate in Ebonyi State and former Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Bernard Odoh, also announced his resignation from the party.

Professor Odoh, in a letter dated May 4, 2026 addressed to the APGA ward chairman in Ezza North Local Government Area, said his decision followed “considered reflection” and concerns over his limited involvement in party affairs at the Board of Trustees level.

He explained that stepping aside was necessary to ensure “institutional coherence and effective stewardship,” while reaffirming his commitment to the unity and development of Ebonyi State and Nigeria, pledging continued support for initiatives aimed at the common good.

Both developments highlight growing political realignments within Ebonyi State ahead of future electoral contests.
