Fubara’s APC Screening Ends Abruptly Amid Uncertainty

There was uncertainty surrounding the political future of Siminalayi Fubara on Sunday after the Rivers State governor reportedly left the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening exercise in Abuja abruptly.

According to The Sun, Governor Fubara arrived at the Plateau State Governors Lodge, where the APC screening committee was meeting, at about 3:15pm but left shortly afterwards.

The newspaper reported that his departure sparked speculation over whether he was screened by the committee, which was said to be dominated by members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Speaking to journalists after the exercise, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, who also serves as secretary of the screening committee, declined to confirm whether the Rivers governor had been screened.

“I don’t know what you mean by screen, anybody that appears before screening committee, of course, is necessary as part of the process,” Basiru said.

“It is natural that everybody must appear before the screening committee. After the exercise, the screening committee will issue its report.”

He added that the committee had yet to conclude its work or submit any report.

“As at now, the screening committee, when it has completed seeing everybody it supposed to see will now sit down and come up with reports on the screening. As at now, there’s no report of screening committee,” he added.

The development comes amid growing political tension in Rivers State involving Governor Fubara and key actors within the state’s political landscape.
