The police in Osun State have confirmed the killing of a man, identified as Kolade Eluyera, by suspected gunmen in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to the police, the victim was found with gunshot wounds after the attack, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
“The incident was reported at the Ikire Divisional Police Headquarters this morning. From available information, the deceased was killed in the early hours of today,” Mr Ojelabi said.
He said an investigation had begun to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
“We have commenced an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing. We are also working to apprehend those responsible,” he added.
The police spokesperson assured residents that efforts were under way to ensure that those behind the attack are arrested and prosecuted.
