Streeting Meets Starmer Amid Labour Leadership Tensions

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has arrived at Downing Street for talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as political tensions continue to mount within the Labour Party ahead of the King’s Speech.

The meeting comes at a sensitive moment for the Prime Minister, who is facing growing pressure following a wave of ministerial resignations and internal calls for his resignation. According to parliamentary reports, four ministers have stepped down, while more than 80 Labour MPs have urged Mr Starmer to either quit or set out a clear timetable for departure.

At the same time, a separate group of more than 100 Labour MPs has issued a statement backing the Prime Minister, insisting that “this is no time for a leadership contest,” underscoring deep divisions within the party over his leadership.

The political uncertainty comes ahead of the King’s Speech, in which King Charles is expected to outline the government’s planned legislative agenda. However, questions remain over whether Mr Starmer will still be in office to see through the programme, according to political correspondents.
