The Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (ENSSAA) says it will begin a statewide enforcement exercise against unauthorized outdoor advertisements, including posters, billboards, political campaign materials and other signage displayed without the agency's approval.
The General Manager of ENSSAA, Mr. Francis Aninwike, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, stating that the exercise would be carried out across Enugu metropolis and all 17 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the operation is in line with the provisions of the ENSSAA Law 2016, which regulates outdoor advertising and signage within the state.
Aninwike said individuals, political parties, candidates, organisations and businesses are required to obtain the agency's approval before erecting, displaying or pasting any form of outdoor advertisement.
"Political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders are advised to regularise their advertisements and obtain the necessary permits before displaying campaign materials in any part of the state," he said.
The ENSSAA boss noted that the increasing number of unauthorized advertisements across the state violates existing regulations, defaces public infrastructure and undermines environmental aesthetics.
He stressed that the planned enforcement exercise should not be misconstrued as being targeted at any political party, candidate or interest group.
"The enforcement exercise is not targeted at any individual or political group. It is a routine regulatory action aimed at ensuring compliance with the law and maintaining a clean, orderly, and aesthetically pleasing environment," Aninwike stated.
He disclosed that the agency had secured armed police escorts for its enforcement teams to ensure a smooth and peaceful operation.
According to him, the exercise will be conducted daily between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. across designated locations in the state.
Aninwike urged members of the public to comply with relevant regulations and avoid obstructing officials carrying out lawful duties.
He reaffirmed ENSSAA's commitment to maintaining orderliness within the outdoor advertising sector and ensuring strict compliance with extant laws governing signage and advertisement in Enugu State.
